History

Telenor traces to Norway's original state telegraph administration, established in the mid-nineteenth century, which evolved over more than a century into the country's national telecommunications provider before being corporatized and partially privatized in the 1990s and 2000s as Norway liberalized its telecom sector. It expanded significantly into Asian mobile markets, including Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Malaysia, becoming one of the more internationally diversified European telecom operators.
