Sogebank
Stock performance
History
Sogebank (Société Générale Haïtienne de Banque) was established by Haitian investors in the 1980s and grew, partly by acquiring the local operations of foreign banks, into one of Haiti's largest banks. It built a group that includes microfinance, insurance, and other financial services.
Business model
Sogebank offers retail and commercial banking, cards, trade finance, and remittance services, while its subsidiary Sogesol provides microcredit to small businesses and informal traders.
Market position
Sogebank is one of the three largest commercial banks in Haiti, alongside Unibank and the state-owned BNC.
Country impact
Haitian banks handle a large share of the remittances that sustain the economy, and Sogebank's ability to keep branches and payment services running amid gang violence, fuel shortages, and political crisis is critical for households and businesses.
