Purcari Wineries
Stock performance
History
The Purcari winery in southeastern Moldova dates back to 1827, and its wines were famously served at European royal courts in the 19th century. The modern Purcari Wineries group was assembled from the 2000s by entrepreneur Victor Bostan, combining Purcari with other Moldovan and Romanian wineries, and in 2018 it became the first Eastern European wine group to list its shares, on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Business model
Purcari produces and sells wine under brands including Purcari, Bostavan, and Crama Ceptura, along with brandy, mainly in Romania, Moldova, Poland, and other European and Asian markets.
Market position
Purcari is the largest wine producer in Moldova and one of the leading wine groups in Central and Eastern Europe.
Country impact
Wine is one of Moldova's signature exports, and Purcari's success in shifting from the Russian market to the EU and Asia after Russia's 2006 and 2013 wine embargoes became a model for the country's broader reorientation toward Europe.
