PTT
Stock performance
History
PTT was established as the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, a state enterprise created to develop and manage the country's oil and gas resources and reduce dependence on imported fuel following the oil-price shocks of the 1970s. It was corporatized and partially privatized through a public listing in 2001 as part of broader Thai state-enterprise reform, while the Thai government retained majority ownership, and grew into a large diversified energy conglomerate spanning exploration, refining, petrochemicals, and retail fuel distribution across Thailand and the broader region.
Business model
PTT operates across oil and gas exploration and production, refining, petrochemicals, natural-gas distribution, and one of Thailand's most extensive retail fuel-station and convenience-store networks, giving it a presence across nearly every stage of the energy value chain domestically. Its scale and state backing position it as the central instrument of Thai national energy policy alongside its commercial operations.
Market position
PTT is the largest company in Thailand by revenue and market value and the dominant energy company in the country, with subsidiaries spanning exploration and production (PTTEP), petrochemicals (PTT Global Chemical), and retail fuel distribution that together give the PTT group a scale far exceeding any other Thai company. It has also pursued regional expansion into other Southeast Asian energy markets.
Country impact
PTT is the largest and most economically significant company in Thailand, a primary source of Thai government revenue and a central pillar of national energy security, given the country's substantial reliance on imported energy despite PTT's domestic production efforts. Its scale makes it consistently the largest single component of the Thai stock market index.
