History
Palestine Telecommunications Company (Paltel) was founded in 1995 under the Oslo Accords framework and became the main Palestinian telecom operator, launching the Jawwal mobile network in 1999. It is the largest company on the Palestine Exchange.
Business model
Paltel Group provides fixed-line telephony, internet (through Hadara), mobile services (Jawwal), call-center services, and media, and depends on Israeli approval for equipment imports and radio frequencies.
Market position
Paltel is the dominant telecom group in the Palestinian territories, competing in mobile with Ooredoo Palestine and, informally, with Israeli operators.
Country impact
Paltel is the largest private employer and taxpayer in the Palestinian economy, and the destruction of its networks in Gaza during the war that began in 2023 left much of the population without communications for long periods.
