MCS Group
Stock performance
History
MCS Group was founded in 1993, in the early years of Mongolia's market economy, as an electrical engineering company, and grew into one of the country's largest private conglomerates.
Business model
MCS operates across beverages (as the Coca-Cola bottler in Mongolia), telecommunications through the mobile operator Unitel, property including the Shangri-La complex in Ulaanbaatar, energy and engineering, and mining through Mongolian Mining Corporation, a coal producer listed in Hong Kong.
Market position
MCS is one of Mongolia's largest private business groups and a significant employer and investor.
Country impact
MCS's spread across consumer goods, telecoms, property, and mining reflects how a handful of conglomerates came to dominate Mongolia's private sector after the transition from communism.
