Libyana
Stock performance
History
Libyana Mobile Phone was launched in 2004 as Libya's second mobile operator, owned by the state through the Libyan Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Company (LPTIC). It quickly overtook the older Al-Madar network to become the country's largest operator, and kept its network running through the 2011 revolution and the conflicts that followed.
Business model
Libyana sells prepaid and postpaid mobile voice and data services nationwide and has rolled out 4G across most cities, with mobile internet becoming its main growth driver.
Market position
Libyana is Libya's largest mobile operator, with millions of subscribers, competing mainly with Al-Madar Al-Jadeed, which is also state-owned through LPTIC.
Country impact
Mobile networks are the main source of internet access for Libyans, and Libyana's ability to maintain service across rival territories during years of conflict has made it one of the few genuinely national infrastructure providers.
