Stock performance

Stock price history isn’t connected yet — once it is, this company's recent price chart will show up here.

History

Gulf Air was founded as one of the earliest commercial airlines in the Gulf region and originally served as the flag carrier for Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Oman jointly, before those partners launched their own national carriers, leaving Gulf Air as Bahrain's sole national airline, wholly owned by the Bahraini government.

Business model

Gulf Air operates passenger flights connecting Bahrain to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, functioning as Bahrain's national flag carrier and a significant source of national prestige and connectivity for the small island kingdom.

Market position

Gulf Air holds a much smaller position than regional rivals Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad, all of which emerged from what was originally a shared Gulf Air partnership, reflecting the intensely competitive dynamics of Gulf commercial aviation.

Country impact

Gulf Air is one of the most historically significant companies in Bahrain and a symbol of national identity, even though its commercial position has been considerably overshadowed by the much larger Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad that grew out of the original shared Gulf Air venture.
