History
GraceKennedy was founded in Kingston in 1922 by John J. Grace and Fred William Kennedy as a trading company. Over the following century it grew into one of the Caribbean's largest conglomerates, building the Grace food brand into a staple for Caribbean communities around the world.
Business model
GraceKennedy has two main segments: food, manufacturing and distributing Grace-branded and other products in Jamaica and exporting them to the US, UK, and Canada, especially to the Caribbean diaspora; and financial services, including banking (First Global Bank), insurance, and money-transfer services.
Market position
GraceKennedy is one of Jamaica's largest and most diversified companies and one of the best-known Caribbean consumer brands internationally.
Country impact
GraceKennedy's food exports are an important source of foreign exchange, and its money-transfer business handles a significant share of the remittances that Jamaican households rely on.
