History
Elektrani na Severna Makedonija (ESM) is the state-owned power producer, which took over the generation assets of the former national electricity company when the sector was unbundled and privatized distribution in the 2000s.
Business model
ESM generates electricity mainly from lignite-fired thermal plants at Bitola and Oslomej, along with hydropower plants and the country's first wind farm, and sells it to the regulated and wholesale markets.
