Stock performance
History
Emaar Properties was founded by Mohamed Alabbar with early backing from the Dubai government as the emirate embarked on an ambitious strategy to transform itself from a modest trading port into a global tourism, business, and luxury real-estate destination. Emaar became the developer behind many of Dubai's most iconic projects, most famously the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and the surrounding Downtown Dubai development, positioning the company at the center of Dubai's dramatic urban transformation over the past three decades.
Business model
Emaar Properties develops and sells residential, commercial, and mixed-use real estate primarily in Dubai, alongside a growing shopping-mall and retail business (including the Dubai Mall) and hospitality operations, and has expanded selectively into other international markets including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and India. Its scale allows it to undertake giant, iconic single developments that smaller developers could not finance or execute alone.
Market position
Emaar Properties is the largest real-estate developer in Dubai and one of the most prominent developers in the Middle East, closely associated globally with Dubai's transformation into a major luxury real-estate and tourism destination. It competes with other major Dubai developers including Damac Properties and Nakheel, and its projects are frequently used internationally as symbols of Gulf real-estate ambition.
Country impact
Emaar Properties is one of the most significant companies in the UAE and has been central to Dubai's emergence as a global city, with its developments — particularly the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai — serving as internationally recognized symbols of the emirate's rapid transformation. It remains one of the largest and most closely watched companies on the Dubai Financial Market.
