History

CP All was established by the Charoen Pokphand Group, one of Thailand's largest conglomerates with deep roots in agribusiness, to bring the 7-Eleven convenience-store franchise to Thailand under an exclusive regional licensing agreement with the US-based (later Japanese-owned) 7-Eleven brand. The Thai 7-Eleven network expanded at an extraordinary pace over subsequent decades, becoming deeply embedded in daily Thai urban life, and CP All later acquired Siam Makro, a major Thai wholesale retailer, to broaden its retail footprint beyond convenience stores alone.

Business model

CP All operates Thailand's 7-Eleven convenience-store network, one of the densest and most extensive in the world relative to the country's population, alongside Makro wholesale cash-and-carry stores serving small businesses and retailers. Its convenience-store format, offering food, drinks, and everyday essentials with extended operating hours, has become deeply integrated into daily Thai consumer routines in a way few other retail formats have achieved.

Market position

CP All operates the dominant convenience-store chain in Thailand by a very wide margin, with a store density that makes 7-Eleven an almost inescapable presence in Thai cities and towns, and Thailand is frequently cited as having one of the highest concentrations of 7-Eleven stores per capita of any country in the world. It faces limited large-scale convenience-retail competition domestically given the scale of its existing network.

Country impact

CP All is one of the largest retail companies in Thailand and, as part of the broader Charoen Pokphand Group, connects to one of the most powerful and diversified business conglomerates in the country, with interests spanning agribusiness, retail, and telecommunications. Its convenience-store network has become such a fixture of Thai daily life that it is frequently used informally as a proxy indicator of Thai consumer spending patterns.
