History
BLOM Bank (Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer) was founded in 1951 and grew into one of Lebanon's largest and most profitable banks, expanding into the Middle East and Europe.
Business model
BLOM offers retail, corporate, private banking, and asset management in Lebanon and abroad. As with other Lebanese banks, its domestic activity has been constrained since 2019 by informal capital controls and the collapse of the currency.
Market position
BLOM Bank is one of Lebanon's two or three largest banks, alongside Bank Audi and Byblos Bank.
Country impact
BLOM's fortunes, like those of Lebanon's banking sector as a whole, are tied to the restructuring of the banking system and the fate of depositors' frozen savings.
