Ariana Afghan Airlines
Stock performance
History
Ariana Afghan Airlines was founded in 1955 and is Afghanistan's oldest airline and national carrier. It has survived decades of war, sanctions, and the destruction of much of its fleet, and continued to operate after the Taliban takeover in 2021.
Business model
Ariana operates domestic flights from Kabul and international routes to destinations such as the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, India, and China, carrying passengers, pilgrims, and cargo.
Market position
Ariana is Afghanistan's flag carrier and, alongside private Kam Air, one of the country's two main airlines.
Country impact
With the country's land borders often difficult to cross, Ariana is one of Afghanistan's few links to the outside world for trade, pilgrimage, and travel, and its operations reflect the country's international isolation.
